BYD Tang EV 2022 With 730 km Range And 517 hp Debuts in China
BYD Tang EV 2022 made its official debut on April 1. It adopts BYD’s latest “dragon face” design and packs a 108.8 kWh battery for 730 km (CLTC). The Tang EV’s pre-sales start in mid-to-late April with a price range of 280,000-350,000 RMB (44,000-55,000 USD).
Even though it is the first official debut of the BYD Tang EV 2022, spy shots of this SUV have leaked online several times. Moreover, Chinese MIIT has also shared official images of the Tang EV 2022. So we are already familiar with its fresh appearance. It adopts a new “dragon face” design with sharp headlights and an elegant front fascia. The new BYD Han EV and the BYD Yuan EV also use this style. The BYD Tang 2022 looks way sportier with a new face than the current model. Aside from the front end of the Tang EV 2022, nothing else has changed much. We can highlight some details, like new rims (265/45 R21) and a floating roof.
In the interior of the Tang EV 2022, we see the major innovation of this SUV—six seats. It is the first time that BYD has offered the Tang with six seats. So now the second row is equipped with two captain’s chairs. These seats comprise ventilation, heating, and massage. Anyway, the Tang EV with seven seats will also be available to purchase.
As we can see, the center console of the Tang EV 2022 stays in line with the current model. It has a 15.6-inch touch screen that can rotate landscape portraits. It also got a pretty fancy Dynaudio audio system, cool trim on the dash, and a steering wheel with a flat bottom with a DiPilot badge. The other features of the Tang EV 2022 are DiLink 4.0 (5G) intelligent network connection system and DiPilot autonomous driving system.
The BYD Tang EV’s specs are also known. The Tang EV 2022’s battery has a capacity of 108.8 kWh. There is a single electric motor version with a range of 730 km (CLTC) and power consumption of 15.6 kWh. The two-electric-motor version will have a range of 635 km (CLTC) and power consumption of 17.6 kWh. The Tang EV 2022 also has a smaller battery with one electric motor and a 600 km (CLTC) range. Regarding performance, the Tang EV 2022, with two electric motors, has a peak power of 380 kW (517 hp).
According to leaked specs, the Tang EV 2022 will become more expensive than the current model, with a 280,000–350,000 RMB (44,000-55,000 USD) pricing range. The current Tang EV cost 279,500–314,800 RMB (44,100–49,670 USD). So the new EV will be approximately 5,000 USD, pricier than an old one. Maybe the noticeable difference is caused by the reduction of the EV subsidies in 2022 in China.
